Tips to Stay Active on Rainy Days
By Sara Butler
Rainy days happen, and they can throw a wrench in your schedule. If you feel cooped up on rainy days and yearn to burn off some energy, there are some healthy things you can do to pass the time. Here are a few active tips to help get you started!
Channel Your Inner Chef
Being stuck inside all day is a great excuse to experiment in the kitchen. Use the next rainy day you encounter as an excuse to try something new like that focaccia recipe you’ve had your eye on or that soup you’ve been trying to perfect. You can also use any indoor time to work on prepping meals for the upcoming week, freeing up time later when the weather is nice that you won’t have to spend in the kitchen.
Work Out
If your outdoor workout plans have been thwarted by thunder and lightning, bring your workout inside. You can look up workout routines online, throw in that Zumba DVD you haven’t touched since 2009, or just walk in place as you watch the entire first season of Downton Abbey. The choice is yours as long as you realize that being stuck inside doesn’t mean you just have to sit on the couch all day.
Flex Your Brain
Don’t forget that your brain needs exercise too. Do something that helps work your brain out such as a puzzle, some Sudoku, or even signing up for an online language course to finally learn French. It’s important to keep yourself engaged mentally so you’ll feel like your day has been productive and you can go to bed knowing you didn’t just languish inside all day.
Create a Healthy Home
Sure, doing chores you’ve been putting off isn’t exactly the most exciting thing in the world, but it is productive when the weather outside limits your activities. Tackle the problem spots in your home and declutter. Maybe clean out your refrigerator or evict the dust bunnies that live under your bed. Cleaning makes your home a healthier place to be and it’s a great physical activity too.
Just because you're inside doesn't mean you have to just sit around. Find something active to do and the rain will stop before you know it! Who knows, you may discover a new hobby or activity that you'll want to do rain or shine.
