Feeling Overwhelmed? Use These Tips to Slow Down

By Genevieve Cunningham

Our world is so incredibly busy. With the instant communication, incredibly fast travel, and rampant opportunities, many of us are constantly on the move. And with that, we’re also constantly overwhelmed. Unfortunately, many of us don’t even realize that we’re overwhelmed until we take a minute to slow down. And being overwhelmed on a regular basis can be bad for our health. If you’re a bit too overwhelmed and want to slow down to enjoy your life and improve your health, take a look at these tips to help you do it.

Pick Up Meditation

Meditation is a deliberately slow practice. So it only makes sense that this would be beneficial for anyone who is trying to slow down a bit in life. Meditation requires you to sit still and be with yourself. You aren’t racing around from thing to thing or rushing from one event to another. You just sit and be still. Though it takes some serious practice to master meditation, anyone can begin the process at anytime. Just make sure that you take it easy on yourself. It’s a lot harder than you think, so try to meditate for one or two minutes, master this, and then expand your practice as you can.

Purge Responsibilities

Though this might sound like music to your ears, you can’t actually shuck all responsibilities. You have to be practical. But most of us have way too many responsibilities. We don’t have to do it all … in fact, we shouldn’t be trying to do it all. Get rid of the obligations that aren’t important or that aren’t special to you. Focus on the things that matter and you’ll be on your way to less stress and better health in no time at all.

Make It a Lifestyle

Anything that is actually going to stick is going to be a lifestyle. A fast-paced life is definitely a lifestyle. And a slow-paced life is a lifestyle, too. It’s just one that most of us aren’t familiar with. If you’re going to take on this challenge, you need to commit. Make a slower pace of living your ideal, and it will get easier and easier to do on a regular basis.

It’s OK to slow down. In fact, it’s good for us to slow down. Use these tips to slow down your life a bit. Over time, you may find that it’s far more enjoyable to a busy, hectic lifestyle. And you may also find your health, happiness, and productivity improve like never before as you slow down, smell the roses, and enjoy the ride.
