Fall Events for the Whole Family

By Brandi Swieter

September starts the fall season, with plenty of fall events right around the corner. There are plenty of activities in the area for families to attend, giving everyone the chance to get outdoors and enjoy some fun time together. This list of fall events gives you something to think about, while you’ll have to look in your city and surrounding area for chances to attend similar offerings.

Apple Picking

Plenty of orchards are open for customers to come in and look around. Not only are there plenty of sights to see, but certain offerings are also available for people to enjoy. Apple picking is just one option. Families can head to an orchard and purchase a bag to fill up with apples they pick themselves. Everyone may have to walk back to where the trees are located, or there are sometimes hay rides that take people back. These orchards often offer far more, such as a store with apples, caramel apples, apple cider, and more for purchase, hayrides, or a pumpkin patch.

Harvest Festivals

Many churches and other local places offer annual Harvest festivals. These festivals allow the community to come together and celebrate the fall season and have one last fun get-together before winter arrives. Many festivals include hayrides, pumpkin painting, games, bounce houses, petting zoos, and more. Attend one or all for as much fun as you can handle.

Corn Mazes

Corn mazes can be tricky to get through, but many people enjoy trying to find their way through the tall corn stalks that leave them wondering if they’ll ever make it out. There are traditional corn mazes that people can go to with their families during the day, and haunted corn mazes to try at night. Beware that the haunted options can get quite scary. They are not for the faint of heart.

Trunk-or-Treats

Several churches, stores, malls, and other locations hold trunk-or-treat events outside. People sit in the trunks of their cars and pass out candy to the kids. Though the candy may not be the healthiest option, some switch it out for better snacks, such as pretzels, fruit snacks, or crackers. Either way, taking kids to these events can provide exercise as you all walk from one end of the parking lot to the other stopping at each car along the way.

Fall events are fun to attend and can provide exercise. Families looking to get outside this fall and find something to do together should start with these options. Check out other local offerings and have a blast before the colder months arrive.
