Why Mind Over Matter Can Work for Weight Loss
By Genevieve Cunningham
You have definitely heard the expression “mind over matter.” It's an incredibly common saying used in various circumstances. In short, it means that if we put our minds to something, we can absolutely make it happen. But is that really true in every situation? Can we think our way to good outcomes? While mind over matter has its limits, it’s also incredibly powerful. And one situation where you should definitely keep your mind right is in the weight loss process. If you’re looking to drop a few pounds, take a look at why you should focus our mind to help you find ultimate success.
You Need the Mind for Managing Diet
Managing a diet is about way more than your stomach and your tastebuds. The hardest part about getting control of what you eat is convincing the mind to get onboard. Once you make up your mind, the rest is easy. But if your mind isn’t settled on making changes, then that cookie or that dip of ice cream is hard to resist! Before jumping into any significant diet changes, make sure that your mind's made up, and the whole process will become a lot easier.
You Need the Mind for Working Out
Just as you need the mind for a good diet, you also need the mind for exercise. Why? Because exercise is hard. You’ll probably get sore muscles. Your lungs will burn. You’ll want to skip. And if you haven’t made the decision to exercise regularly, you’ll let these things deter you from progress. Decide that exercise is your thing … that it’s who you are. And once the decision has been made, exercising regularly feels normal.
You Need the Mind to Stick With It
The most important part of getting healthy and losing weight is consistency. If we’re not consistent, we’ll lose weight and then gain it back. We’ll build muscle and then lose it. We’ll start to make progress, and then give up. We have to be consistent! And this is something that can only be accomplished by the mind. If you can convince yourself to be consistent in your workouts and diet, you’ll be unstoppable. Mind first, body second, results that last a lifetime.
Mind over matter. It’s important, and it works! Before you jump into your new weight loss or workout program, make up your mind to make it happen! Once your mind is onboard, everything else becomes just a little bit easier. Mind first, body second, and the success will come in good time.
