Flu Season: Don't Let It Stop You

By Virginia Laird

Now that fall has finally arrived, so too has flu season. It is vital to begin taking the proper steps to help keep your family healthy. Experts suggest that while there is no sure way to prevent the flu from wreaking havoc on your family, there are plenty of tips you can follow to help prevent the spread of these germs. A few of these tips include:

  • Go to bed at a decent hour
  • Clean your house routinely
  • Stay hydrated

Go to Bed at a Decent Hour

Although your kids may not like to hear this, getting to bed at a decent time can help keep you healthy. This is just one of the reasons that having a bedtime can be beneficial. Health and wellness experts suggest that those who do not get plenty of sleep may find their body to be more susceptible to illness. Experts advise that the average adult should get at least six hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. However, children require much more than this. During flu season it is imperative to make sure that you and your family get plenty of sleep so that your body can fight off illness.

Clean Your House Routinely

Although you may already keep a clean house, throughout the flu season it is paramount that you clean your house often. Health and wellness experts suggest this means to wipe all surfaces of the house routinely. This can also mean to use disinfectant spray on couches and other areas where many people may cross paths. Experts suggest that keeping the house clean can help prevent the sharing of germs. The next time you head out to the supermarket, make sure you invest in the supplies needed to keep your house clean and germ-free.

Stay Hydrated

Keeping the body hydrated is another way to help the body maintain proper function. It is advised that the average person should drink half of his or her body weight in ounces each day in order to maintain proper hydration. If you are not a water lover, you may need to try flavored water. Experts suggest that any water is better than soda, tea, or juices.

Delay no more. Start taking the necessary steps to help prevent the flu from taking over your home this fall.
