How to Help Keep the Flu Away
By Virginia Laird
The flu has arrived! Across the nation doctors are diagnosing an increased number of flu cases every day. With that in mind, it is necessary that you take a few precautions to help prevent the flu from taking over your family. While healthcare providers suggest that getting the flu vaccine can help reduce your chances of falling ill with the virus, they admit that there is no sure way to completely avoid it. These experts suggest that some of the best ways to prevent the flu from taking over your body is to practice good hygiene, among other things. A few of their tips include:
- Wash your hands often
- Clean the door knobs daily
- Eat a well-balanced diet
Wash Your Hands Often
With flu season in full swing it is imperative that you wash your hands often. Health and wellness experts advise that this includes washing your hands (at minimum) every time you handle food, come in contact with others, and after visiting the restroom. These experts suggest that if you find yourself washing your hands less than seven times a day you are not washing them enough. Research encourages that proper handwashing can help keep you from getting ill all year long, especially during flu season. If you have not already been washing plenty throughout the day, make sure to start this habit right away.
Clean the Door Knobs Daily
Because the door knobs in your home and office are the areas where multiple people touch daily, it is advised that you wipe the door knobs on a routine basis. Health and wellness experts advise that keeping the door knobs clean is a great way to prevent passing germs, including the flu virus. Research suggests that cleaning these areas of your home does not have to be difficult. Rather, simply wiping with a disinfectant wipe can handle keeping them clean. The next time you head to the supermarket, make sure you invest in plenty of disinfecting wipes so that you can keep your door knobs germ-free.
Eat a Well-Balanced Diet
Following a well-balanced diet is always a good idea; this is especially true during flu season. Health and wellness experts suggest that a balanced diet includes plenty of vegetables, some fruit, and lean proteins. For many, lean proteins are the chicken and fish. Although red meat may be your favorite, it is not the best choice for regular consumption. Research suggests that eating a well-balanced diet is key to keeping your body healthy. Make this a habit right away.
There is no time to delay making these healthy choices. Start today taking these steps to keep your family healthy.
