Planning the First Meal Is a Good Start
By Tom Herrin
Some people simply roll through their day without much thought or reason. Too many fail to make a real choice but just grab the first thing that is available. This may often be something such as a pastry, leftovers from the night before, or some kind of pre-sweetened cereal. It isn’t that they are bad for them, but they don’t really have any nutritional value or anything worthwhile to contribute to the remainder of the day. Eating the right breakfast may be what it takes to fuel the body for the duration of a busy day.
It May Help Mental Function
Operations involving the brain require proper nutrition as much as any other part of the body. Potassium, magnesium, and selenium are key minerals that should be included in a good breakfast. Foods that are designed for breakfast usually contain these and other valuable nutrients. They can help contribute to good psychological health and seem to be able to help prevent diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
It May Help Manage Weight
When people eat a balanced breakfast, it will contain sufficient protein and vitamins to keep the body satisfied and working efficiently. Poor nutrition at breakfast can leave people hungry reaching for snacks early. Those quick meals made up of pastries, or other packaged items, may sound good at the time but leave a person lacking in adequate amounts of nutrition. Many times, poor nutrition is the trigger for bad eating throughout the rest of the day. People get hungry and begin to snack in an effort to satisfy it. Before long, this becomes habit.
It May Help Strengthen Bones
Bone strength is a problem for many people today. Better nutrition and exercise can both help. Most of us are concerned about problems related to bone strength. Doing what we can now may be an important step in avoiding problems later. When we consume foods with plenty of calcium, we have a better chance of doing more for our bones. The simplest thing to do is have more foods based on dairy products. Milk or yogurt can help supply this. Many people choose cheese. Whatever kind of breakfast we eat can do much to help us start our day off right. There is no one that is right for all, but having the right one for you as an individual can have a major impact on your health.
