How Retail Workers Can Avoid Pain this Season

By Brandi Swieter

More shopping tends to get done in the months leading up to Christmas than any other time of year. Shoppers flock to the stores to find the best gifts for their friends and family and perhaps even themselves. This can lead to longer hours for retail workers and more time spent handling job duties. Standing for long intervals can wreak havoc on the back, making it imperative for cashiers, greeters, security personnel, and other retail workers to find ways to avoid pain during the holiday season.

Stand on a Mat

Cashiers in particular may be able to use a mat when they stand. After all, they are hidden behind the cash register and counter so no one would even know the difference. The mat helps to take some of the pressure off of the feet and can offer relief when standing for long hours.

Get Enough Exercise

Exercise before or after work can greatly improve overall performance. With a stronger core and body, retail workers would be better suited to handle their jobs. Exercises that target the abdominal muscles are best, such as planks. Swimming and yoga are also terrific choices to help get the body in shape.

Wear Supportive Shoes

Shoes that offer support will go a long way in keeping the feet, legs, and back comfortable throughout the day. High heels or flats should never be worn during a long work shift. Retail workers and others who remain busy during the holiday months need a supportive pair of shoes that will protect and comfort them throughout the entire duration of the day.

Maintain a Chiropractic Routine

Visiting the chiropractor can be a huge help throughout the holiday season. It will help to alleviate some of the pain and stress that comes with the holidays in general and help retail workers and others maintain their overall well-being so they can handle the long hours at their jobs. Seeing a doctor of chiropractic can help to eliminate joint restrictions and get the body in peak shape to ward off illness.

Retail workers or anyone else currently in their busy season and in need of a break from the extra work that comes with the holidays should visit The Joint Chiropractic. Walk-in hours meet most schedules, with evening and weekend hours available.
