Just a Few More Steps: How to Meet Your Goal

By Genevieve Cunningham

Walking is a great way to get in shape. And in today's world, we have technology that makes the process easier than ever. Walking apps and step counters are incredibly popular tools that many people use on a daily basis. But even with these devices counting away at our steps, it can be tough to make sure that you get enough movement throughout the day. So what can you do? How can you get more steps without a ton of extra effort? If you need to get more steps throughout your day, take a look at these easy ways to get it done.

Take Extra Trips to the Break Room at Work

For many of us, work requires an extreme lack of movement. We may be stuck behind a desk or behind a counter. We may be stuck doing the same repetitive motion. But we definitely forget to move. If you want to get a few more steps, make more trips to the break room. Walk to the break room to get water or a healthy snack. Walk to the break room, make a lap, and then go back to your office. Or if you can't take so many breaks, make more trips to the restroom, even if it's just to wash your hands. The more often you get up and move, the more those steps will add up.

Park Near the Back of the Lot

Many of us like to drive around the parking lot waiting for a spot to open up near the front. But if we'll make the simple choice to park near the back of the lot, we'll squeeze in so many more steps. At first, you probably won't like the change. But it won't be long until you realize that parking at the back doesn't require much more effort, but seriously adds the steps to your day. Give this a try, and it may be all you need to meet your goal.

Make Extra Laps When Possible

You might be surprised at how easy it is to get in steps when you just repeat what you've already been doing. If you're at the store, make an extra lap around it before you go. At work, make a lap through the office before you leave. These little laps really add up, and it only takes a few to make a serious dent in your goal. If you need something super easy that requires very little in the way of thought, this is probably the easiest way to improve your movement.

Counting steps is a great way to get in shape. It might not make you look like a bodybuilder, but it will absolutely help you burn calories and keep your muscles in shape. Use these tips to get even more steps throughout your day, and you'll be tearing through your goals and improving your health in no time at all.
