3 Reasons to Control Your Phone Use
By Genevieve Cunningham
Phones are rampant in our world today. It's incredibly rare to see an adult without a phone somewhere on their person. And if you're somewhere waiting -- doctor's office, line at the store, etc. -- then most people will have the phone in their hand. It's a useful tool for information, a boredom killer, and a way to escape the world. And while the phone brings so much good into our lives, it also brings a few negatives. If you want to live the healthiest life possible, take a look at these reasons to keep your phone use under control.
To Protect Your Mental Wellness
Phones can really be hard on our mental health. We're too connected. We're too available. And we have way too many ways to compare ourselves to others. If you want better mental health, put your phone down once in a while. This gives you a chance to talk to the people around you and experience life as it happens. Putting the phone down won't be easy, but it will be worth it for a boost in mental health.
To Teach Your Kids Good Habits
Kids do whatever we do -- not whatever we say. Unless you want electronic zombies walking around through their teenage years, you should probably be a good example of technological restraint. Use the phone sparingly, but put it down to talk to your kids and to participate in life -- especially in front of your kids. If you want your kids to have good habits when it comes to the phone, you have to be the example first.
To Get You Active
Phones make us inactive. Instead of exercise, we'd rather play on the phone. Instead of moving at all, we'd rather sit on the couch and browse something mindless. If you want to break the inactivity habit, you should probably break the phone habit first. You'll be really glad that you made the effort when you see the weight drop and your health improve.
Phones are great. We love the availability that they offer. But if we don't use them wisely, we'll create bad habits that eventually lead to poor health. Use these reasons as motivation, and get better habits and better health in no time at all.
