How to Get More Done in Less Time

By Genevieve Cunningham

Everyone likes to be productive. It feels so good to check things off of your to-do list. It's so satisfying when your project reaches the final stages. Getting things done feels so good, but in the busy world that we live in, it's also necessary. The problem for most people is that we lack time. We could be more productive if only we had more time! But time is the one thing we never have! If you're busy but still need to be productive in your life, take a look at these tips for getting more done in less time for a more productive life.

Learn to Delegate

You don't have to do it all. It probably feels like the world is on your shoulders, but there's no rule that says you are responsible for doing everything. If you want to get more done, learn to delegate. Ask for help. Let people do the tasks that they can handle. This is how busy people thrive! Learn the art of delegation, and you'll get double (or triple or more!) things done every day.

Focus on One Thing at a Time

It's tempting to multitask. You feel like the more you do all at once, the faster you'll accomplish your goals. But this rarely works. Most people who try to multitask end up with multiple projects open, but very few completed. In the long run, this method basically backfires. If you want to get more done, focus on one task. Work on it to completion -- or until you're at a stopping point -- and then switch. It might feel daunting at first, but you'll probably get more done than if you were to take the opposite approach.

Prioritize

Sometimes it's not that we need to get more done, it's that we need to get the right things done. If you think this might be true for you, focus on prioritizing your tasks. Start with the most important and work your way down the list. Even if you get fewer things done, you'll feel more satisfied that the bigger, more worrisome items are crossed off the list.

We all need to be productive. We need it at work and at home both. But staying on task and getting things done can be difficult. If you really need to improve productivity in your life, just use these tips. They might take time to master, but the long-term effects on your life will be worth the effort to change your ways starting now.
