5 Foods that Fight Cancer
By Brandi Goodman
With World Cancer Day, International Childhood Cancer Day, and other Cancer health days promoted throughout the year, it's important for people to understand just what can help them win their fight. These days promote preventative measures that allow people to beat the disease that is taking over their lives while also encouraging others to be more considerate of the health of themselves and others around them. Certain foods can help fight cancer that are worth taking a look at.
Blueberries
It's a known fact that blueberries are a superfood. They contain all kinds of antioxidants that work to fight cancer from within. Eating blueberries each week can help to boost your chances of fighting off certain cancers and other illnesses and keeping the body healthy. They're a great source of Vitamin K, Vitamin C, and fiber.
Winter Squash
Not often found on the list, winter squash is actually highly nutritious and ideal for fighting cancer. It contains excellent amounts of fiber, Vitamin C, and Vitamin A. The vegetable contains carotenoids, such as alpha-carotene and beta-carotene, that work as antioxidants. After being converted to Vitamin A, these carotenoids work hard to boost the immune system.
Walnuts
Walnuts are one of the healthier nut options to eat. They make a great source of magnesium, manganese, and copper. There are also omega-3 fatty acids found within walnuts that make them ideal for boosting health. Combined with the polyphenols, phytosterols, and vitamins, walnuts have lots of protective compounds that make them worthwhile to add to the weekly menu.
Carrots
Carrots have fiber, potassium, Vitamin C, Vitamin A, and Vitamin K. The vegetable is more than ideal for fighting cancer and keeping the immune system boosted. Most people only think of eye health when they think of eating carrots, but the vegetable can do so much more. Plenty of antioxidants exist within carrots that make them an essential part of a healthy diet.
Apples
Lots of Vitamin C and fiber is present in apples. With anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidants, apples work to fight off bad cells within the body and keep it pain-free. It is important to eat the peel and not just the inside of the apple because that is where many of the antioxidants reside.
