Tiny Tips for Chipping Away at Extra Pounds
By Genevieve Cunningham
Most everyone, at least once in their lives, has the desire to lose weight. Maybe we binged on vacation and need to lose a few extra pounds. Maybe we've steadily gained over the years, and we're finally fed up. Whatever the case may be, losing weight can be hard. The most important thing to remember is that weight loss is not a race. The best success happens in little pieces at a time. If you're ready to drop a few pounds and get healthy, take a look at these tips for chipping away at extra pounds slowly over time.
Drink an Extra Glass of Water
It's easy to say "drink more water." But actually carrying this out is tough for a lot of people. We're so used to drinking soda and tea and coffee. We often don't even realize when we're thirsty. We might literally go all day and never even consider filling up a glass! Instead of the generic "drink more water" advice, spell it out. Tell yourself that you're going to drink one more glass of water per day. Then schedule it. Whether you currently drink no water or five glasses, an extra glass will help hydrate the body and boost health.
Watch Portion Sizes
In America, portion sizes are out of control. We often eat two or three serving sizes in just one helping of food. Why? Because we're so used to staring at big helpings, we don't even know how to appropriately size our food. If you want to improve health and lose weight, measure your food. It will take some effort in the beginning, but once you get used to it, you'll only need to look at the food to determine whether it's too big.
Eat at Home
The more you can eat at home, the more you can control your food. If you eat out a lot, reduce it. Eat out once or twice a month, and then eat at home the rest of the time. Yes, this takes preparation. Yes, this takes effort. But eating healthy meals at home is a great way to lower weight in a steady and more predictable pattern.
Weight loss does not require big gestures or elaborate plans. It takes tiny good decisions made over and over again. It takes time and patience. If you're in it for the long haul, use these tips to get moving in the right direction. With the right action, you'll be dropping weight and boosting health in no time at all.
