How to Set Yourself Up for a Healthy Week

By Sara Butler

Everyone has an off week in which they seem to wake up late each day and rush out the door. Then, when it's time to go home, you're so exhausted you simply stop by a drive-thru to pick up dinner on the way home. These things happen, but if you want to be healthy, then it's not a sustainable way to live your life.

When you're busy, it's common for healthy habits to take a backseat. But there are things you can do at the beginning of each week to set you up for success all week long. When you have a day at the beginning of the week, use it to do a few things to help you have a better, healthier, and more successful week.

Prep Your Meals

Taking the time to prep your lunches and dinners for the upcoming week may sound daunting, but it's one of the most effective things you can do to set yourself up for success for the next seven days.

Start small by simply prepping one meal per week, then branch out into other meals and snacks. For example, you can prep your lunch to take to work with you for the week easily by making a large portion of something such as quinoa salad and then dividing it up for the week. Or you can make breakfast for yourself in the form of overnight oats or small quiches in a muffin tin that you can reheat and eat all week on your way out the door. As you make this ritual more routine, add more meals to your to-do list.

Clean Up

You don't have to deep clean your house every week (unless you want to) but it can do wonders for your mental health and attitude to take a little time to clean before your work week starts. Clean out your work or school bag, put away laundry, or clear off your kitchen counters. Identify something that can help you feel a little more organized as you go into a new week.

Pick Out Your Clothes

When was the last time you had a plan for what you were going to wear each day? This is a simple task that can help take off some pressure each week. It can help to reduce the rush you feel in the morning and helps you reduce the number of decisions you have to make before you've had your first cup of coffee.

A few simple tasks can help you start your week off right! Give them a try and see how much better your week can go.
