Trying New Summer Fitness Options

By Brandi Goodman

Summertime means time outdoors for many people. The nice weather encourages people to get outside and find activities they enjoy instead of sitting inside. Sure, you can go for a walk in the park or take a bike ride, but these won't leave you feeling as fulfilled by the end of the season. Get fit this summer by trying something new.

Join a Team

Many sports teams exist at the local level. Look into the options in your area and see if any teams or clubs have joined together that you can participate in throughout the summer months. You may be able to join a running club or play volleyball, softball, baseball, or soccer. There are plenty of choices to consider that will have you burning calories and working up a sweat. Check with one of the sports complexes in the area, such as Shipyard Park, Riverside Sports LLC, or The EFC Center to see which sports they have available to play.

Water Park Membership

A water park is a great place to get your fitness on in the summer. Spend at least one day a week at the park by purchasing a membership that helps you make the most of your money. All of the walking, swimming, climbing, and sliding you'll do will burn lots of calories and help you build up your endurance. Splash Island Waterpark in Mount Pleasant, S.C. offers splash passes for this purpose.

Amusement Park Membership

An amusement park is also ideal for membership. You may not get to swim, but all the walking you'll do from one ride to the next will still have you getting in a good workout for the day. Some even still have a water section even though it's not classified as a water park. This gives you the best of both worlds. Frankie's Fun Park over in North Charleston is one such option.

Join an Outdoor Fitness Class

You don't have to stick with indoor fitness classes when it's nice outside. Plenty of outdoor fitness classes and groups meet up as well. You may find yourself doing yoga in the park or getting together with others to run. These allow you to get fitness time in while also reducing stress by being outside.

Any opportunity you take for fitness is a good one. You need exercise to lead a healthy life. Enjoy your time outdoors this summer by trying new things and finding activities that make you actually want to continue participating.
