Summer Activities That Create Memories and Muscle

By Genevieve Cunningham

The summer is a time of opportunity. It seems like the summer offers us more time to get things done. The days are longer. We have more days off. We have more time with our kids. It's a great time to set some goals and start working toward them. And since the summer is a limited season, it's important to set priorities regarding what needs to happen. What makes a good summer priority?  Perhaps two of your top priorities should be your health and your family. And luckily, you can work on both of these goals at the same time. If you would like to build some muscle and some memories this summer, take a look at these summer activities to help you find success.

Hiking

Hiking is a great summer activity. It lets you get out in nature. It provides a low-impact exercise that keeps you moving. And it's something that you can do with your whole family. They key is to choose a trail that suits your whole family's needs. If you have little ones, an easier trail will be the right choice. If you have older kids, you can choose something a bit more challenging. If you like the thought of low-impact and the great outdoors, hiking might be the best bet.

Biking

Riding a bicycle is fun for everyone. If you don't already have bicycles, then this option may cost a little money upfront. But once you have the necessary equipment, all you need is some open ground to ride on. This can be a trail, a street (a safe one!), or a park. It could even be an empty parking lot or open grassy area. Biking really helps to work the leg muscles, and your whole family will build better stamina as well. If you want to really have some fun, try biking as a family this summer.

Swimming

The ultimate summer activity also happens to be incredibly good for you. Swimming! Swimming works every muscle in the body and improves endurance. It also teaches you a skill that is a necessity in life. You can take the whole family to a pool and everyone will have a blast. As an added bonus, swimming is exhausting, so your kids may sleep well, meaning you might get some quality sleep as well.

There are so many activities that we can do in the summer that include both fitness and our loved ones. These are just a few! Participate in activities that keep you and your family motivated to stay active, have fun, and feel good about your health and life. At the summer's end, you may find that you have more muscle and wonderful memories to carry with you through the rest of the year.
