5 Ways to Keep Your Skin Nourished

By Brandi Goodman

Psoriasis Action Month focuses on helping those with the skin condition learn to control their symptoms. Even without this struggle, everyone should be doing what they can to take care of their skin. At least five ways exist to keep your skin nourished and looking healthy.

Maintain a Healthy Diet

What you put into your body has a direct impact on the outer appearance of your body. More than just your weight, the foods you consume can alter how your skin looks as well. If you want supple skin that appears healthy and well, you need to maintain a nutritious diet. Fruits and vegetables packed with vitamins and nutrients are best.

Drink Lots of Water

What you drink also plays a part in your skin health. You should avoid sugary drinks and sodas and instead drink lots and lots of water. Water will help your circulation and ensure the skin remains smooth, firm, and clear. Not drinking enough water is more likely to reveal dried out skin with blemishes.

Use a Moisturizer

Applying a moisturizer to the skin is a great way to keep it nourished and strong. It will prevent the skin from drying out and becoming scaly and rough. Options that are oil-free are best. Some moisturizers even contain sunblock features to help protect the skin from the sun's rays.

Wear Sunscreen Outdoors

Any time you're outdoors, including during the winter months, you should be applying sunscreen. The sun's harmful rays can do serious damage to your skin. It is likely to leave behind dark spots and marks that won't go away after they've formed. Sunscreen will help to keep your skin well and avoid it from becoming damaged.

Exercise

Exercise increases blood flow throughout your body. This in turn will help to carry vital nutrients and oxygen to the skin and keep it nourished. Exercise will also keep the skin tight so it does not appear loose or saggy. It is recommended that you get at least 30 minutes per day, though you can do more if you desire. Switch up your routine so you feel interested and can enjoy what you're doing, which makes you more likely to continue.

Whether you have psoriasis and need to keep the redness, itchiness, and dry skin at bay, or you simply are looking for ways to keep your skin healthy, these methods should help. Give each a try and see which ones work best for you. Healthy skin is part of being healthy overall.
