Panini Recipes Made Healthy

By Brandi Goodman

National Panini Month in August encourages people to enjoy a panini when they desire. You can order one from a restaurant that offers the melted meal or create your own from home. Creating your own gives you the opportunity to make a healthier version that is not only tasty but also beneficial for your body. Plenty of healthy panini recipes exist.

Spinach Panini

Spinach packs a lot of punch when it comes to nutrition. It's a great source of fiber as well as many other nutrients and vitamins. Enjoy a spinach panini on whole wheat pita. Add sliced onion, shredded basil leaves, feta cheese, and tomato slices and you have a protein-packed meal that's highly beneficial.

Hummus and Avocado Panini

Protein and healthy fat are found in this panini recipe. An herb hummus paired with avocado work well together in this concoction. Season with a bit of pepper if you desire and add some arugula leaves for added vitamins and minerals. Some gruyere cheese works well in this dish if you prefer cheese bites.

Chicken Salad Panini

Diced chicken, spinach, roasted red peppers, garlic, fennel, light mayonnaise, and reduced fat cheese come together for a chicken salad concoction that's tasty and nutritious. Lots of protein and vitamins are in this meal. Add the salad to whole wheat pita bread and toast it for a unique panini flavor.

Jalapeno Popper Chicken Panini

If you're looking for spice, a jalapeno popper chicken panini may be what you're after. Use chicken breast and tomato as the main ingredients while mixing finely chopped jalapenos with reduced-fat cream cheese to add cream and spice to the melted sandwich.

Turkey and Tomato Panini

Tomato goes great on sandwiches, and turkey is a common choice of meat. A turkey and tomato panini offers a creamy concoction that is refreshing yet unique. Use reduced-fat mayonnaise, non-fat yogurt, lemon juice, basil, and pepper for your spread. Add it to your bread first before placing the turkey and tomato slices and cooking.

Mediterranean Tuna Panini

A tuna sandwich is a typical choice, but not as many people think to have it on a hot panini. Add some flavor and uniqueness by creating a Mediterranean tuna panini that's bursting with color. Tuna, feta cheese, red onion, olives, artichoke hearts, and capers come together for this mixture.

Create your own panini during the special month or any time after that you desire. You can use healthy ingredients to create a nutritious meal that is worthwhile to enjoy.
