3 Honest Reasons Why You Can't Sleep (and Some Help!)
By Genevieve Cunningham
Do you often get a good night's sleep? This is a question that we can all ask ourselves from time to time. It's a question that needs to be answered honestly. When we don't get enough sleep, everything in our lives suffers. The answer, for most people, is that a good night's sleep doesn't happen very often. But why? What are the real reasons why we can't rest? And more importantly what can we do about it? If you need better sleep, take a look at these honest reasons why your sleep is suffering, and some tips for getting more shut-eye tonight.
It's Your Kids
Kids are so much work. They're great fun and loads of laughs too, but that doesn't disguise the exhaustion that comes with kids. When they're babies, they wake you up in the middle of the night with cries. When they're older, they wake you with worry for their safety and well-being. It's no secret that parents get less sleep than their childless peers. If you have kids and are lacking sleep, you've probably found the culprit.
It's Your Job
Jobs are both necessary and stressful. For the most part, we manage the stress pretty well. But there are times when it's too much to handle. And when this happens, sleep is one of the first things to suffer. If your job is causing you stress, you have to find a way to leave work at work. It won't be easy, but it will be worth it for your health.
It's Your Own Fault
You stay awake playing on your phone. You try to binge the newest season of your favorite show on Netflix. In short, you do it to yourself. Correcting this problem takes some soul searching and some self-discipline, but if you're serious about better sleep, you can definitely make it happen.
Tips for Better Sleep
Get your kids on routine - If your kids are acting crazy, there's no way you're getting any rest. It can be really helpful to get your kids on a schedule -- and one that is much earlier than yours. This might take some time, but when your kids fall asleep on time and you're able to go to bed, the effort you put in right now will be well worth it.
Wind down - Winding down gives you more time to relax. It's a routine that you follow every day, and your body gets used to this routine. Find a routine that works for you, and stick with it for results.
Say no - Sometimes you just have to say no. No to more work. No to your kids. When you need rest, say no and go to bed instead.
Sleep is important. Treat it that way! The better sleep you get, the more likely you are to experience good health. Use these tips to improve the quality and quantity of your sleep, and you may start feeling healthier and more refreshed in no time at all.
