Healthy Foods to Eat in Moderation
By Sara Butler
You may think that when it comes to healthy food options, there's no such thing as too much -- but that's simply not the case! There are foods out there that are incredibly good for you but still should be enjoyed in moderation or your health could suffer. Here are a few foods you shouldn't overdo but should definitely enjoy in moderation.
Avocados
Avocados are a very popular food that happen to be packed full of vitamins, minerals, healthy fats, and fiber. They also happen to be full of calories. One medium avocado can pack in up to 250 calories, which may not seem so bad until you sit down and eat a few in the form of guacamole or on your avocado toast. Go ahead, enjoy avocados, but make sure to enjoy them in moderation.
Nuts
Nuts are another food full of healthy fats that also happen to be great for your heart, but the high-fat content in nuts can be a problem because they're high in fat. Where nuts come in handy are as a quick snack to help get you through your afternoon hunger pangs and as a topper for other foods, such as a salad. Just don't add too many or you could bump up the calorie count too much.
Dark Chocolate
If you're craving something sweet, dark chocolate is a great way to assuage your sweet tooth and give your health a boost. Dark chocolate is rich in antioxidants that are good for your heart. Simply choose a chocolate bar that is low in added sugar and high in cocoa to ensure you're getting the best.
Tuna
Tuna is a fast and healthy way to take your lunch on the go and it's high in protein and omega-3 fatty acids that are great for your heart. But you must be careful to only eat canned tuna a couple of times per week due to its high levels of mercury. If you're pregnant, you must be even more careful since mercury can harm an unborn baby.
Cheese
Cheese and dairy products are full of protein and calcium. It helps to improve your heart health and promote the healthy development of your bones. But eating too much cheese will nullify any benefits to your health. Also, choose cheese that is lower in sodium when you do indulge.
These foods can be a part of a healthy diet as long as you enjoy them in moderation!
