Putting the Fun in Fitness: Here's How
By Brandi Goodman
A boring fitness routine can make it easy to want to call it quits. You might start to get sick of doing the same thing day in and day out, causing you to give up entirely. Rather than stopping your exercise plan, change it up. Put the fun in fitness so you stay motivated to keep working out.
Go Shopping
If you already like to shop, turn it into your fitness routine. You may not even realize that shopping burns calories. You're walking, after all. Shop at the mall rather than a standalone store so you'll find yourself walking more. Be sure to take the stairs instead of using an escalator or elevator as well so you're really making the most of your shopping trip.
Dance While You Work
Whether you're outside doing yard work or in the house cleaning, dance while you do it. Put on some music and groove to the tunes as you get your tasks completed. Music makes things a lot more fun, and dancing burns far more calories than if you just completed the chores alone. It's an easy way to add an element of fun to what you're doing.
Make it a Game
A fitness game is far more fun than just standing lifting weights or performing other exercises. There are game systems, such as the Wii, that offer fitness options. The Wii Fit or even Wii Sports have you up and moving. Your body operates as the controller so all your movements are tracked. Swing your arms as you go up to bat or move your legs to cycle a bike. You'll be burning lots of calories in the process.
Go Back to Your Childhood
Think back to your childhood. What games did you like to play outside? What did you play on the most at recess? Use that as inspiration for your workout. Swinging, jump roping, hula hooping, climbing on the playground, and crossing the monkey bars are all physical activities you can do to burn calories, build your strength, and work up a sweat.
Your body needs exercise. It also needs to be challenged if it's going to make changes. Add some fun to your fitness routine so you have a desire to continue working out and getting the exercise your body so badly needs.
