Have You Tried a Treadmill?
By Tom Herrin
Achieving a goal of getting enough exercise is something that a lot of people strive for but often fall short. There are walkers, joggers, those who go for boot camps, and just about everything in between. There is really no such thing as a one-size-fits-all fix for exercise. Many things should be considered when people attempt to set up a program. Deciding what their current level of fitness is may be a big determining factor. Another is always determining how much time is available. Having a successful plan will have to take into consideration many factors. For those who may feel they are a little more crunched as to their availability, using a treadmill may be a good option.
You Can Be in the Driver's Seat
Many times, when people set out to start a workout, they rely on someone or something else. Using a treadmill can allow a person to set their own limits. It is possible to control the speed, the time, and the environment. Most come with enough program ability to set the time and speed. Pacing oneself can allow them to have a good warm-up, a productive workout, and a good warm-down. It may be used indoors so the weather conditions outside are not so important.
They May Strengthen the Heart
When people fail to get adequate amounts of exercise, their body can deteriorate pretty fast. Regular exercise can build the heart so that is becomes stronger. Using a treadmill can do this without overtaxing the individual. This regular rhythmic stride, whether it is walking, jogging, or running, can be managed so that a person can focus on their particular goal. A stronger heart will generally mean better blood pressure as the heart is able to move blood more efficiently with less effort.
It Requires Some Choices
When you decide to use a treadmill, you really have all of the decision-making under your control. I have a treadmill and didn't feel that it was what I wanted until I realized just how well it worked for me when I was short on time or weather was bad. Once I began to use it, I discovered just how convenient it was. I could set the speed however I wanted and watch the timer as well. It worked better than I had thought. I became convinced it was something I wanted to continue using.
