Kicking the Vaping Habit
By Stephen R. Farris
Now that more studies are being done about the health risks of vaping, it might be time to consider kicking the habit before your health is affected. Besides quitting cold turkey (getting rid of your vaping device or simply saying no when offered), sit down and make out a plan to help you get started. Chances are you'll have better luck at succeeding this way. Here are a few tips that might help as well.
- Write down why you want to quit vaping
- Find someone that will support your efforts
- Plan on what to do about stress
Pen and Paper
Besides the health benefits of not vaping, add several more reasons as to why you feel the need to quit. Write them down, and while you're at it, think of some of the positive effects it will have on your life in the future.
Support Is Good
Having a friend or family member in your corner to help support you during the transition period, is an absolute plus. There will be times you might not feel you can push through. Having someone there to talk about it with can help give you the courage to keep moving forward towards your goal. You might try to find vaping support groups, or start one in your community if you live in a smaller town that doesn't have one.
Stress Goals
Like any habit, the main reason we indulge ourselves is we find it a way to ease stressful situations or dealing with the environment we're living in. Going to the inkwell and paper once again, think of other more healthful ways you can deal with the stress of quitting, and also how to better deal with your present stress. When hit with those feelings of stress, go for a walk to help ease your mind, or listen to some music. Keep one of those soft, rubbery stress balls handy to squeeze.
If you're serious about quitting vaping, talk with your doctor or chiropractor. Either can provide tips and/or suggestions to help get you started, and they can answer any questions you may have concerning the health effects of vaping and the health benefits for your body once you decide to make a positive change.
