Join the Pink Noise Movement
By Donna Stark
Every time you look at the clock, your frustration grows and your groans get louder and louder. Ugh! Why is it so hard to fall asleep? You are doing everything right, or so you think you are. You made a cup of chamomile tea, you turned your laptop off an hour before bed, and your room is perfectly chilled. You have even been listening to a white noise app on your phone. So what else is there to do? Well, if you are open to listening to white noise, you may also be open to another type of noise that has been shown to help people fall asleep. It's time to try pink ... pink noise that is!
What Is Pink Noise?
Pink noise is similar to white noise, but unlike the same consistent noise of white (like static on a TV), pink noise ebbs and flows, and has more bass in it. It's a noise that is "natural-sounding" and is often likened to thunderstorms, rustling leaves, traffic, and ocean waves. Check out a few of the benefits that pink noise may provide.
- Helps you fall asleep
- Enhances deep sleep
- Improves memory recall
Sleep Is Critical for Good Health
A good night's sleep is incredibly important for both your physical and emotional health, and is equally important as diet and exercise are, so it is vital that you do everything you can to get the recommended amount of sleep! Here are some ways that quality sleep can impact your days.
- Improves productivity and concentration
- Helps you maintain a healthy weight
- Enhances athletic performance
- Decreases the risk of illness, disease, and depression
- Lowers inflammation in the body
Where Can You Find Pink Noise?
Fortunately, it's actually quite easy to incorporate pink noise into your bedtime routine. All you have to do is find a pink noise app on your phone and select the sound you respond to the best. You can also choose to buy an actual pink noise machine too! Just be sure to do your research or head to a store where you can try them out in person. Lastly, if you are lucky enough to live in an area that provides its very own sounds of waves crashing, brooks babbling, or leaves rustling, just open your window!
The best part about pink noise is that you really have nothing to lose by trying it, so give it a go! Hopefully, you will be in dreamland real soon!
