Workplace Strategies to Get Out of That Rut!
By Donna Stark
Are you in a rut at your workplace? Does your lack of concentration lead to more daydreaming now than it did when you were back in high school? Are you struggling to be productive? If you have hit that proverbial brick wall and are trying to come up with a big, new plan to get you back on track, may I suggest you cut that plan down in size? Because sometimes, bigger isn't always better, and oftentimes, all you need is a little pick-me-up to get you back into business.
Workplace Strategies
You may be happy to know that you aren't the only one lacking inspiration and motivation at work. Many people find themselves in this type of situation but not everyone contemplates a major change just because they are in a rut. So push those drastic thoughts aside and try some simpler strategies that may be just enough to lift your spirits and help you become more productive at work. Take a look at a few suggestions here.
- Take breaks - If you think that skipping your breaks during the day will increase your productivity, think again. Those breaks can be a game-changer! Use them to clear your mind, recharge your brain, and get your body ready for the work that lies ahead of you.
- Know when you peak - Are you the kind of person that has a burst of energy in the morning or are the afternoons the time that you shine? Figuring out when you work best is important because you will want to plan your day around that.
- Create an aesthetically pleasing workstation - Do you really think you can do your best work if you are stuck in a space that you don't even like? By making your workstation, cubicle, or desk a place where you actually enjoy sitting, you may find that your creativity, motivation, and productivity are increased.
- Go outside - It's no surprise that your focus and concentration can be improved if you step outside for a bit because nature has a way of doing that to us, doesn't it? So go for a short walk on one of those breaks you no longer skip or just step outside for a breath of fresh air. It really will make a difference in your day.

Fostering your motivation and creativity at work doesn't require any life-changing plans on your part, so think smaller! By following some of the suggestions above, or by coming up with your own, you may be able to get out of that rut and start killing it at work again!
