10 Great Beginner Exercises Anyone Can Do
By Stephen R. Farris
If you're looking to get into shape, then what's stopping you? I'm pretty sure we've all heard this question before. In a way, it's supposed to be somewhat motivating.
But in reality, chances are we have an excuse of some kind; for instance, we may not have enough time in our busy schedule to work out. But if you're concerned about your health and well-being, then it might be time to make some room in your schedule to get fit.
No, you don't have to shell out big bucks for a gym membership when beginning an exercise routine. Not saying gyms aren't a great place to get in some reps and work up a sweat, because they are. What I am leaning to is the fact you don't want to burn yourself out early by taking on too much.
Gradually work your way into it by starting off slow. This may include taking a brisk walk for about 15 to 20 minutes in the morning or afternoon. From there, you can always work your way up by adding extra steps and increasing your time to 30 minutes or a little longer. Swimming, cycling and aerobics are excellent starting choices.
There are many basic exercises you can do in the comfort of your own home or yard, plus they're also good as an addition to your workout regimen. Here's a few to start off with.
- Lunges
- Push-ups
- Squats
- Standing overhead dumbbell presses
- Dumbbell rows
- Single-leg deadlifts
- Burpees
- Side planks
- Sit-ups
- Glute bridge
For some of these, you may want to purchase an exercise mat and various sized dumbbells. Most big box stores carry these items. These exercises are geared for anyone and a great way to start getting back into a healthier, livelier you.
Our health should be important. Just like we make time to go to work, school or relaxing at home, exercise really needs to be a part of our everyday lives.
