Are You Feeling Setbacks With Your Fitness Goals?

By Stephen R. Farris

The benefits of working out can be tremendous on your body and overall health. It helps us build strength and endurance, plus keeps our heart going strong as well. But no matter how many times you go to the gym, or how much you work out, you still find it tough to get in shape.

You get to the point where you feel like you're just wasting time by doing it, and you're not seeing the benefits from it either. According to NYC-based fitness trainer Ngo Okafor, who has trained a list of celebrities, it may be the fact you're sabotaging yourself. It's not exactly what you're doing in the gym, but outside of it in your daily life.

Mealtime

One of the areas Okafor pointed out is when we sit down for our meals. Most of the time we eat until we are full. However, according to Okafor, we should be concentrating more on eating until we are satisfied, not until we're full.

Restrictive Dieting

Setbacks can occur when counting calories and macros when on a restrictive diet. It can cause us to stress out more when restricting ourselves, and this, according to Okafor, can lead to giving into foods that are not a part of our diet plan.

Are You Drinking Enough?

This area can't be stressed enough, and that's staying hydrated. When working out it's important to stay hydrated. Yes, you can overdo it, but the majority of the time we don't drink enough water when exercising. During the day, Okafor suggests it's best to stay away from sugary drinks and opt more for unsweet tea, coffee or seltzer. He advises that your best bet as a workout drink is water.

Alcohol

Studies suggest that drinking alcohol in moderation -- one glass per day -- doesn't hurt you. Some even suggest benefits from consuming a glass a day. But most alcohol contains sugar and could prevent you from getting good results from your workouts. Alcohol can even leave you with that "dragging" feeling. When working out to get into shape, nix alcohol out of the equation completely.

If you're having trouble getting results from your workout regimen, talk with your chiropractor to see what tips and suggestions they can offer to help guide you with your fitness goals.
