Why Shows Like Tiger King May Help Mental Health
By Brandi Goodman
Tiger King is all the rage on social media, and for good reason. The ludicrous show that is "Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness" is so bizarre that you can't help but watch. The documentary limited series on Netflix tells the real-life story of Joe Exotic and other members of the big cat trade. Shows like these help to boost your mental health for several reasons -- making them ideal to watch when you're in a rut or just feeling down.
They Give You Something to Focus On
The world around us can be so scary. With natural disasters occurring, disease taking over, and shutdowns happening, there is so much stress to our minds. Watching a show such as Tiger King can give you something else to focus on. You get so wrapped up into the lives of these people that it gives you some relief from what's going on in your own. You're no longer focused on the doom and gloom in your own life but are instead intrigued to see what happens next in the show life of someone else.
They Help You Realize Your Life Isn't So Bad
Sometimes seeing the true mess that someone else's life is can help you realize yours isn't so bad. You might be stuck at home right now but at least you don't have an enemy like Carole Baskin taking away everything you hold dear. You may be having a hard day or week but at least you probably have your teeth, unlike John. You might be limited on food but at least you're not eating from an old meat truck. Someone always has it worse. It gives you the opportunity for some perspective.
They Make You Laugh
Laughter is good for the soul. Spend time laughing at shows such as Tiger King and let your stress be eased. You'll even get to laugh some more when you see the memes posted to social media. There's plenty of content that will leave you chuckling.
If you haven't checked out the Tiger King on Netflix, now's your chance. You'll be in for a wild ride that's sure to boost your mental health as you spend time laughing, wondering what in the world is going on, and just getting out of your own head for a while and into the chaos that is this show. Even if this particular show isn't your thing, there's plenty of streaming services and television channels where you can find something more suitable to your liking that can provide the same results.
