Fitness Doesn't Need to Be Overwhelming
By Donna Stark
Starting a fitness program is easily one of the best things you can do for your overall well-being. Daily exercise can help you maintain a healthy weight, reduce your risk of serious health issues, and decrease the levels of stress and anxiety in your life. But starting a new program can feel extremely overwhelming, can't it? That's why your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic want to help. They want you to know that attaining optimal fitness is easier than you think and they have a few tips to get you started. Take a look.
Get Your "Before" Information
We've all seen plenty of before and after pictures, haven't we? Well, when you are starting a new fitness program, you are going to want some of that "before" information so you can measure your progress throughout the journey. Here are a few examples of the things you should have a beginning measurement of.
- Your heart rate before and after exercise
- How long it takes you to walk or run a specific distance
- How flexible you are
- Your weight and body mass index
Design Your Plan
Just saying that you will try to exercise every day isn't a plan. You need to specify exactly what you will be doing. Will you walk a certain distance? Will you strength train every day? The most important thing when designing a plan is to consider all of your fitness goals. By doing that, you will be able to determine exactly what needs to be accomplished to get the results you are aiming for.
Purchase What Is Needed
Whether it be new workout clothes, a pair of sneakers, a gym membership, or some jump ropes for your home, you should definitely make sure you have everything you need in order to be successful. Now, that doesn't mean you need to remortgage your home to do so. Exercise doesn't need to be expensive.
Be Realistic
It's important to be realistic about your goals, to start slowly, and to increase the frequency and intensity only when your body is ready. Your journey to good health isn't a race. Take your time and do it right so that you can avoid injuries, disappointment, and frustration. Once you have been at it for a month or two, retake those initial measurements. They will be able to tell you if adjustments to your routine need to be made or if you are already on the right track!
Fitness for Optimal Health
Starting a fitness program is one of the most important decisions you can make to improve your overall health and wellness, but it doesn't have to be an overwhelming one. By designing a plan and following through with it, you can expect to reach all of your goals in no time. And if you need any additional advice, you can always come in to see your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic!
