Your Sheets: A Few Rules to Consider

By Virginia Laird

When it comes to promoting good overall wellness, experts say that keeping your home and office clean can play a huge part. Furthermore, the way you maintain your bed can either impact your health for the better, or lead to more illness than you may want. Health and wellness experts say that too many simply do not consider the filth that can pile up on your bedding through daily use. A few things that you can do, as recommended by the professionals, to help keep you well include:

  • Stop sitting on the bed
  • Wash your sheets weekly
  • Always wash up before bedtime

Stop Sitting on the Bed

Instead of coming home and collapsing on your bed to read a great book or catch your favorite television show it is better to avoid sitting on your bed. Wearing the clothing that you have worn all day on your bed can bring a variety of germs to the exact place you plan to lay your head at night. This can increase your chances of falling ill. Do yourself a favor and stop sitting on your bed for any reason unless you are climbing in for the night.

Wash Your Sheets Weekly

Not only can your bed sheets harbor the germs you bring in from outside your home, but it is also the place where dead skin cells collect while you dream. This can lead to skin blemishes. To avoid both illness and blemishes, experts say that you should make it a habit to wash your sheets at least once each week. Some advise that you should change your pillowcase more often than this to ensure you are laying your face on a clean one each night. If you cannot remember the last time you washed your sheets, make today the day you do.

Always Wash Up Before Bedtime

Like millions of others, you have likely experienced a time when you have come home from a long stressful day only to fall onto your bed and sleep until morning. While this can seem like a great way to deal with stress, going to bed without bathing first can prove to cause more illness. Health and wellness experts say that it is imperative that you cleanse your body of all the germs that you may be lugging around. Sleeping with all the germs on your skin and in your hair can lead to a great deal of illness. If you are one who prefers a morning shower, simply jump in quick before bed to wash away the germs.

Make today the day you begin doing all you can to keep the germs away and out of your bed.
