What's Your Biggest Health Battle?

By Genevieve Cunningham

Everyone has health battles. Some people have serious battles with serious illnesses. Others have constant battles with things like boredom eating or binge watching. Most health battles aren't a big deal, and pass with the help of medication, doctor visits, or various procedures. But then there are battles that really give us a hard time. Those things that plague us -- habits or situations that we just can't seem to break or get out of. To help you break from your biggest health battles, take a look at these common problems followed by some tips to get you headed in the right direction.

Excess Weight

Carrying around a little extra weight is a serious challenge for so many. Part of the weight gain problem is due to age; metabolisms tend to slow down with age. But weight gain is also a problem because of our lifestyle. We sit too much, eat the wrong foods, and don't take our health seriously until a major problem is happening. If this is your biggest battle, focus on more movement, a healthier diet, and keep your eye on the prize -- a healthy weight and better overall health.

Lack of Motivation

It's so easy to lose motivation, especially when it comes to healthy eating or exercise. We'd just rather have the fast food, or we'd rather skip running the mile. This is a real challenge for many, and quite literally, the only thing standing in the way of better health. So how can we renew motivation? We need to set goals. The more precise our goals, the more likely we are to stick with it. We also need to develop habits. Habits and discipline tend to take over when motivation lacks. If you're able to set solid goals and develop habits, losing motivation from time to time won't be a big deal.

Money

Money is a problem for most people. Maybe you don't have the money for a monthly gym membership. Maybe you don't have the funds for a yoga class or the organic food. But there's good news: Getting healthy doesn't have to empty your bank account. Try buying one good pair of shoes and then walking around the block or at the park -- both of which are free! Try skipping organic and aiming for healthy fruits and vegetables. If you don't have the money, that's OK. Get creative, and you'll still be able to improve your health, money or not.

We definitely fight plenty of health battles throughout our lives. Our health will never be perfect, and that's OK. Luckily, there are some health battles that we can prepare for and win! Focus on winning these common battles, and you'll be well on your way to better health in your life starting today.
