Small Changes Bring Big Benefits

By Brandi Goodman

You don't have to make a bunch of major changes at once to get healthy. In fact, doing so often results in falling off the wagon and reverting to old habits more quickly. You should make small changes at a time to really bring some big benefits to your health.

Walk On Your Lunch Break

When you're at work, you may not be able to get as much exercise as you'd like. You don't need to hit the gym every day, but you should at least get your body moving when you can. Taking a walk on your lunch break can help add in some movement and help with muscle toning and weight management. You'll start to notice a change in your body over time.

Carry a Water Bottle

It's important to get plenty of water to drink each day. You want your body to be properly hydrated and able to function adequately. Carry a water bottle with you so you can take drinks as needed. It's better than being without and having to search for some. You may forget your water bottle at times in the beginning, but after a while it will become a habit.

Spend More Time Outside

It can be difficult to find time to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. You may have too much work to do or feel like sitting inside for the day. Spending more time outside can be great for your health in numerous ways. You'll get to take in some natural Vitamin D. You can boost your mental health by feeling the warmth of the sun or the breeze of the wind while watching the beauty around you. You even get a chance for more exercise. Add in a little outside time to your day each day for big benefits.

Add a Fruit or Vegetable to Your Meal

Unhealthy eating is a major cause for concern. It can be difficult to change your eating habits overnight, however. You should start by just incorporating one fruit or vegetable into your meal. If you'd normally eat a burger and fries, at least get some apple slices too. If your dinner was going to consist of some spaghetti and garlic bread, add a small salad as well. Adding in some healthy options will help you get in more nutrition while also cutting down on some additional calories you may have eaten by taking a second helping of the unhealthy stuff.

One small change at a time is all you need to start on the track toward better health. You can reap bigger rewards if you start out small and allow yourself to gradually make the changes you need for a healthier lifestyle. Your well-being will be better for it.
