Chiropractors Suggest Changing These 4 Items

By Brandi Goodman

Certain things can last for years. They may even suit you for your entire lifetime. Others, however, need regular upgrading. There are certain things that chiropractors suggest you change often for your well-being. Failing to do so can result in discomfort or worse.

Your Shoes

You shouldn't buy one pair of shoes and wear them for years to come. Shoes actually need to be replaced regularly if you hope to maintain good posture, avoid aching legs, and move comfortably. Shoes wear out over time and need to be upgraded. You don't want a pair that is too tight or one that is worn and uncomfortable. These can hurt your feet and make it difficult to walk. If you wear a pair daily, such as to work, then you should consider replacing every few months. A pair of shoes you wear on occasion, such as strictly for yard work, can be replaced annually.

Your Bra

Some women keep bras for years because they like the style. Chiropractors don't recommend this practice. Many bras are too small and constricting around the back. This can cause an unnecessary ache. The straps can also dig into the shoulders, throwing off posture. Chiropractors recommend regular fittings and bra upgrades to ensure the correct size is always worn.

Your Mattress

Sleep can be difficult to come by if you have an old mattress. You should be getting a new one at least every eight years or so. A mattress with a sunken spot can quickly lead to back pain and waking with discomfort. You should be switching your pillows regularly as well for the same reason.

Your Bag

Many women carry a purse or tote bag over one shoulder. This means all the weight inside is placed on one side of the body only. This will undoubtedly cause strain on the spine, a pull to the shoulder, and throw off your posture. If you're going to stick with this type of bag, then you need to alternate the arm you carry it on. Otherwise, it's best to switch to a backpack version with two straps. You'll then have even weight distribution.

Make sure you're making regular upgrades to your bedding, your wardrobe, and anything else that can impact your body. Too tight shoes and bras, sunken mattresses and flat pillows, and bags that weigh down one shoulder are unsafe to use. If you haven't made these upgrades in time and are experiencing pain, you should visit The Joint Chiropractic for an assessment. An adjustment may be in order, along with further guidance on changes you should be making for improved well-being.
