How to Reverse Sun Damage and Improve Your Skin

By Genevieve Cunningham

Healthy skin is a long-term goal for most people. Even if you don't consciously think about your skin's health, you definitely think about its appearance. And the health and the appearance of your skin go hand-in-hand. Of course, for many people the thought of healthy skin comes into the picture too late. We consider our skin once we see wrinkles or sun damage, but at this point, the damage has been done! So is it really too late? Or can you still save your skin and improve its appearance? If you need to undo years of sun damage and bad habits, take a look at these tips for getting the healthiest skin moving forward.

Start Sun Protection Now

Even if you've never used sunscreen before, it's OK to start using it now. Though you may not be able to undo all of the damage that's already been done, you can prevent new damage from occurring. Protecting your skin from the sun should include sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and dressing in layers.

Consider New Products

The health and science communities are always finding new ways to help us. There are multiple products on the market that are designed to heal and improve your skin. Do a little research and try a few. Some gentle products include Vitamin C serum, certain oils, and lotions of various kinds. Give the product a chance before giving up on it, and you may find the perfect combination for your skin.

Develop a Routine

Our skin improves more consistently when we have a routine. If you don't have one, develop one that suits your needs. It should include cleansing, moisturizer, sunscreen, and any lotions or serums that you like. Once you find a good routine, stick to it over time to really see lasting results.

See a Dermatologist

Sometimes professional help is all it takes to get moving in the right direction. If you're worried about your skin and want to get back on track, make an appointment with a dermatologist. They'll be able to evaluate your skin, give you some tips and a plan, and nurse your skin back to health. It's never a bad idea to see a professional for any sort of health care, and your skin is certainly no different.

You may not be able to undo all of the damage of the past, but you can make a huge dent in the appearance and health of your skin. Don't focus on changing what's already happened; just move forward! Use these tips to improve the health and appearance of your skin, and you'll be healthy and glowing as you practice consistency and patience from here on out.
