Rev Up Your Fitness Routine

By Donna Stark

Even though there is an entire industry built on the promise of good health, it is widely known that most people just need to spend more time out of their day exercising. The only truly healthy way to lose weight, reduce the risk of serious health issues, and maintain optimal wellness is to consume a nutritious diet and stay physically active with regular exercise. The diet part isn't that hard to maintain. After all, everyone loves to eat, but the exercise part? Well, we have all heard the excuses, haven't we? And the most common excuse out there is that exercise is boring.

Rev Up Your Fitness Routine

Boredom can kill every good intention you have, so if the idea of spending more than 30 minutes in a gym seems like torture for you, it may be time to rev up your fitness routine. Sometimes, even the smallest changes can make a difference. Take a look at some simple suggestions you can try to increase the fun (and your motivation) while working out.

  • Join a class - Want to spice up your fitness routine in a big way? Try joining a fitness class! From quiet meditation to rip-roaring intensity, you will be surprised by how many options there are to choose from. Some classes are based on traditional exercises while others incorporate various forms of dance, boxing, martial arts, and swimming. And since there is a class for everyone, you won't have any problem finding the right one to reach your goals!
  • Try something new - Sometimes, all it takes to eliminate your boredom is to try something new, no matter how small of a change it is. Tired of the treadmill? Hop on the stationary bike or rowing machine. Sick of waiting in line for the weight machines? Head on over to the dumbbells. But don't stop there. You can initiate bigger changes too. For example, if you normally focus only on strength-training, try to incorporate more cardio into your routine, and vice-versa.
  • Bring a distraction - Normally, it is not safe to be distracted while working out, but if you are on a machine that is conducive to watching a TV program or reading a book, go ahead and add that element to your routine. Having a safe distraction will help make the minutes pass by faster and could even entice you to exercise for an even longer period of time!

Kick Boredom to the Curb!

Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to spice up your fitness routine. You just need to be open to a new perspective, new people, and new ideas. Now go on and work out that body of yours! It has never craved exercise as much as it does now!
