Tips for the Perfect Camping Trip

By Donna Stark

Looking to get away from all the craziness of the past few weeks? Wanting to spend some quality time with the family? If so, you should think about heading outdoors for your next vacation! Whether you choose to stay in a cabin, a camper trailer, or a tent, camping is the ideal trip for everyone, but you don't want to make the mistake of hitting the road without a plan. You see, camping requires a fair amount of preparation. In fact, the better prepared you are, the better the experience will be. So take a look at the following tips and then start planning the trip of a lifetime!

Destination

First things first ... where do you want to go? Are you heading deep into the woods, are you going to a popular campsite, or are you taking off to a lakeside retreat? Your destination and the length of your trip need to be determined before any other plans are made. After all, everything that needs to be packed will depend on what you choose here.

Supplies

Once you have decided on the location, you need to create a list of all the supplies you will need. Stock your first-aid kit and make sure all prescription medications are filled. Create a meal plan (don't forget the water and snacks!) and determine what extracurricular activities you want to participate in. Pull out the fishing gear, make sure everyone's water shoes fit, and if sleeping in a tent, double-check that all the pieces are accounted for!

Suitcases

Unless you are planning on packing everyone's suitcase yourself, you may want to create a general checklist to hand out to all the family members. This list should include every type of clothing and footwear that will be needed for the entire duration of the trip. At this point, it's a good idea to check the weather forecast. You will want to know if the nights are going to be chilly or if rain is being called for during the trip. And if you have kids, be sure to include the obvious (isn't it always the most obvious item that gets left behind?) Also, don't forget the towels, sheets, blankets, or sleeping bags if needed!

Enjoying Your Trip

Remember, camping is a time to rest and relax with those you love and being properly prepared is the only way that can happen. By taking the time to figure everything out in advance, you can ensure a wonderful and safe vacation for everyone! Now get moving! Mother Nature is waiting for you!
