Here's What You Need to Keep Your Brain Healthy
By Genevieve Cunningham
The brain. How much thought do you really give to your brain on a daily basis? Though we might actually think about our weight or our muscles every day, we don't usually think about our brain. We just know it's there -- and we take its health for granted. But should we? We use the brain for everything. We need it in order to have any sort of quality of life -- and what's more, we need it to stay alive! Doesn't it deserve some thought? Of course it does! If you would like to put a little focus into keeping your brain healthy, take a look at what you need to know and do right now.
You Need to Keep It Engaged
The brain has to be used in order to stay sharp. Just like any other part of our body, if we ignore the brain or never challenge it, it will deteriorate. To keep the brain healthy and strong, use it! Do puzzles and brain games. Learn something new -- no matter how old you are. Practice a skill or hobby on a regular basis. The more you use your brain, the healthier it's going to be and the more sharp you're going to feel long-term.
You Need to Eat the Right Foods
Like the rest of our body, the brain responds to good food. Maintaining good brain health means eating foods that nourish this part of the body. Fatty fish -- which contain omega-3 fatty acids -- are a good choice. You can also choose vegetables (which are good for everything in your body), as well as foods such as walnuts, pumpkin seeds, and dark chocolate.
You Need to Get Enough Rest
Rest is especially crucial for brain health. If the brain is never allowed to rest, it gets overwhelmed. We lose focus and suffer in productivity. We get irritated more easily. We might feel moody or overly emotional. The brain has to be given the opportunity to recuperate. Make sure that good sleep is a part of your daily life, and you'll be doing your brain and the rest of your body a huge favor.
We need the brain to be healthy. We need to be able to focus and pay attention for long periods of time. We need our memory sharp. Our brains make us who we are! Use these tips to keep your brain healthy and strong starting now and lasting the rest of your life.
