I Scream, You Scream!
By Donna Stark
Whether you are Team Chocolate, Team Vanilla, or Team Mint Chocolate Chip, nothing will cool you down on a hot summer day faster than a couple scoops of your favorite ice cream. And it couldn't be more appropriate to do so than during the hottest time of the year and during National Ice Cream Month, right? President Ronald Reagan designated the month of July as such 36 years ago, and although you certainly don't need a proclamation to enjoy this sweet treat, it is nice having an extra reason to do so. Let's take a look at some creative ways you can indulge in everyone's favorite dessert -- and who needs to wait until July.
In a Waffle Cone or Bowl
If you have ever walked into an ice cream shop and had the pleasure of smelling fresh-baked waffle cones and bowls, you know what I mean when I say you can't go wrong with ordering one. On top of that, waffle bowls are ideal for young children who may have trouble keeping a cone upright but still want to enjoy the "cone" part.
With Toppings or as a Sundae
The great thing about ice cream is that you can customize it to your liking! Give in to your sweet tooth and smother it with extra chocolate chips, sprinkles, and hot fudge. Or add a dose of nutrition on top with a handful of granola, sliced almonds, and chopped fruit. Just don't forget the homemade whipped topping too!
As a Cake
Forget the boxed chocolate cake with store-bought chocolate icing as a dessert. Choose an ice cream cake instead! This decadent treat is often served on special occasions but that shouldn't stop you from enjoying one on a regular Sunday afternoon either! You can make your own and come up with your own combination of flavors or you can order one from your local ice cream shop.
As a Drink
Mixing your favorite ice cream with some milk in a blender is a classic way to cool down in the summer. From the iconic vanilla and chocolate to the extreme flavors of today, milkshakes will definitely satisfy everyone's taste.
For Your Puppy
Last of all, don't forget your four-legged friend! Although you wouldn't want to serve your dog the same ice cream that you are eating, there are plenty of puppy-friendly options out there! Check your local grocery or pet supply store and get ready for a very happy dog at home.
I Scream, You Scream
Getting hungry for ice cream yet? Go ahead and indulge! Grab your family and head to your local ice cream shop or create some fantastic combinations at home. It's time to celebrate National Ice Cream Month!
