Summer Wellness Tips From the Chiropractor
By Brandi Goodman
The summer season provides plenty of sunshine, fresh air, and fun to those who need it. It isn't all puppy dogs and rainbows, though. The summer can bring about many problems if you aren't careful. From dehydration to backaches, summertime leads to some health issues if you aren't taking precautions. Keep summer wellness tips from the chiropractor in mind for a truly stellar season.
Stay Hydrated
The summer heat can get to you quickly. Don't forget to stay hydrated and bring a bottle of water with you everywhere you go. If you have plans to be outside for several hours of your day, you're going to need plenty of water to make it through. Dehydration and heat stroke are incredibly common in the summer months -- particularly on extremely hot days. Your body needs fluids to replace the sweat that's undoubtedly going to be pouring out.
Stretch Before Your Activities
Lots of summer activities are on the list for most people. No matter what you plan on doing, be it spending a day swimming, heading out on the boat, playing a game of volleyball, or just taking a walk, you need to be sure to stretch. Stretching helps prevent injury because it prepares the joints and ensures they're flexible and able to handle the ventures you're taking.
Keep Your Feet Supported
Flip-flops and flat sandals are always advertised as summer footwear. These shoes do give your feet the opportunity to breathe, but they do nothing to offer support. You need to keep your feet supported if you plan on engaging in physical activity or walking even a short distance. Your feet, legs, and back can quickly become fatigued and sore if you don't.
Stick to the Chiropractor's Schedule
After your first chiropractic visit, you will most likely receive a recommendation on how often to come back. You should stick to the chiropractor's schedule if you want to stay as healthy and well as possible this summer. If your chiropractor recommends coming in once a week due to chronic back pain, then it's best to follow through with this plan and avoid missing sessions.
Your summer wellness depends heavily on the tips you're taking into consideration. If you're outside for hours without water, doing activities without stretching, and never taking your chiropractor's advice to heart, you're bound to experience some aches and illness. Make your summer the best one yet with chiropractic tips in mind.
