Your Healthy Summer Goal List
By Brandi Goodman
Summertime boasts easy living, good times, sun, and fun. That doesn't mean it's all sunshine, though. You still have to make the right choices and choose healthy options for yourself if you're really going to have a good summer. Create a healthy summer goal list for your well-being.
Add Nutrition to Every Meal
It may be hard to accomplish at first, but nutrition should be considered at every meal. Make it one of your summer goals to always get healthy food options into your menu so you can maintain your energy and good health. Fruits, vegetables, and whole grains should be included with breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Keep Sunscreen in Stock
Sunscreen should be applied daily -- not just when the sun is brightly shining. The sun's rays can be harmful to your skin even when you don't see it out. It may be hiding behind the clouds, but the sun is still in the sky and emitting rays that can change your complexion and have lasting harm. Make it a goal to always keep sunscreen in stock and use it every day that you'll be outside.
Stay Cool
It may not bother you to feel hot throughout the day while you're enjoying the summer sun. You really should make it a goal to stay cool, though. The heat can cause more damage to your body than you realize. It's important to drink plenty of water, seek shade when the sun is beating down, and even stay inside if it's far too hot outdoors. Exhaustion and heat stroke are possible with too much sun.
Exercise Daily
Add daily exercise to your goal list. Laying out at the beach may help you occupy your time, but it isn't the best use of it. You can still lay around if you want, but make sure it's preceded or followed by exercise so you get your daily amount in. Bike to the beach so you get your body moving, or spend some time in the water as well. You should aim for at least 30 minutes per day, though more is always welcome.
A healthy summer goal list can help you make the right decisions when it comes to your health. Make sure you're choosing nutritious foods, activities that promote exercise, and finding things to do that encourage wellness. It will help you have an even better summer.
