With Blood Pressure, You May Be What You Eat
By Tom Herrin
It is not uncommon for people to have issues with their blood pressure. Many take for granted that it is an inevitable part of getting older. While it may be the case for some, it is not for all. Making a few minor changes in daily routine may be enough to help people to stave off falling into the endless pit of taking medication to control their blood pressure. Anytime medication can be avoided, it should be considered a victory of some sorts. More often than not, lifestyle changes is all it takes to make real improvement, but people are such creatures of habit that they just don't want to do it. In the long run, it may be much easier to make these small changes than to wait and suffer the consequences of blood pressure that has become too high and requires major intervention to preserve and protect heath.
Many People Consume Too Much Sodium
Some facts are very plain. As a whole, people take in way too much sodium in the form of salt. This is the case with many fast foods as well as many packaged foods. Reading the labels on something such as soup or chili can almost make the hair stand on end. These foods, and many others like them, contain large amounts of sodium. People often become so accustomed to it that they develop tastes that make things seem poorly prepared when they are not present. Reading labels can help. More careful ordering can help to steer choices in a better direction and better health.
Be More Observant of Caffeine
So many people are reliant upon coffee or a soft drink to get them going each day that they may ignore the fact that they are taking in large amounts of caffeine. For those in this boat, substituting a drink that is considered to be less or no caffeine may prove to be enough change to get them pointed in the right direction. This change may not only help lower blood pressure, but it may also help them to sleep better. And this is one in which, unless they have convinced themselves that the taste is different, they will have to make very little sacrifice.
Learn to Enjoy the Changes
If all it takes for any of us to lower blood pressure is a small change in diet, we haven't really had to sacrifice at all. Depending on how committed we get, there are plenty of other things we can do. Simply adding a few at a time may help you to reach our goal.
