3 Small Habits That Make a Big Difference in Your Day

By Genevieve Cunningham

Habits are everything. When we have bad habits, we send our health in the wrong direction. And even if it doesn't show up right away, eventually, we notice the decline in overall wellness. If we have good habits, we can improve our health and our life overall. But even more importantly, habits can change the way we feel about everyday life. The right habits can make a world of difference in the way that you feel on a daily basis. And wouldn't it be nice to feel good every day! If you're interested in creating small habits that improve your daily life, take a look at these three things to start as soon as today.

A Morning Routine

Morning routines can make a big difference. When we're rushed in the mornings, it can make the whole day feel rushed and overwhelming. But when we take our time and get moving at a reasonable pace, we can make our mornings -- and the rest of the day -- feel like a smooth transition. Morning routines should include whatever makes you feel good. It might be a cup of coffee, a few minutes reading a book, a few minutes outside. Just make sure it includes a solid wake-up time, and a series of habits that you can enjoy. With this one addition to your day, you'll probably find a sense of calm in your life that you haven't felt in years.

A Stretching Habit

As kids, flexibility is a given. We're naturally flexible. We easily bend and twist and stretch. But as adults, we really have to work at flexibility. If you want to have better health and feel better regularly, make sure you have a stretching routine in your day. This might mean waking up and getting a good stretch before you get moving for the day. Or it might mean stretching at night before you pour yourself into bed. Or it could mean both! Get into the habit of stretching so that your body can be loose, limber, and stronger than ever.

A Wind Down Process

Just as important as the process of waking up is the process of winding down. If we don't take the time to relax at night and to really wind down, we won't get the kind of sleep that we need. A wind down process should include your bedtime habits and anything that relaxes you. And it should end with you getting in bed at the same time every night. It might take a little practice, but engaging in a wind down routine can improve your sleep and get your health in a better state overall.

Our habits make so much of our day. They help us create patterns. They help shape our mental, physical, and emotional health. They're so important! Use these little habits to change your health and your life, and make every day a little better starting right away.
