Blood Pressure May Still Be in Your Control
By Tom Herrin
There are lots of illnesses and health problems among people around us. One of the most frustrating things is to have issues that are completely out of our control. This often creates a feeling of total helplessness. In many cases, this may lead to depression. Working to have better health is all about having a greater ability to manage our health. For those with blood pressure issues, many feel that they are destined to take medication for the problem for the remainder of their lives. In some instances, this is true, but it doesn't always have to be. When a person is first told they may have blood pressure issues, they are usually told to make some changes in their lifestyle. It may be after they ignore this advice that they must begin taking the medication. For those who will make the commitment, it may be avoidable.
Eat Healthy
Most people really have no good excuse for eating poorly. It is simply a matter of choice. Years ago, there was very little nutritional information regarding many foods. Today it is available on most foods, whether it is on packages or menus. A little planning ahead may help. Making the decision to reduce fats, salts, and calories is purely personal. Planning in advance of purchase or dining can put any of us in the driver's seat.
Deal with Stress Head-On
We all deal with some kind of stress. It is part of life. Allowing it to have a negative effect on our lives is something else. It may be a matter of learning to delegate decision-making to others. If we look around, it is very likely that we can find others who may be perfectly capable of making decisions that we currently believe are ours alone to make. We can do well to communicate to others what our expectations are and letting them go. This may help us to build more trust in each other as well. We also must identify what things are worth worrying about.
Success Breeds Success
Once we are able to control a few things about our lives, we may be more confident in our own abilities. Another thing that is good to consider is keeping a blood pressure monitor at home. They are pretty inexpensive and really easy to use. We use one at our home regularly and find it helpful. As a result, anytime I find that my blood pressure is slightly elevated, I make some kind of small adjustments to what I am doing. Within a day or two I am able to have it where it belongs. It is a good feeling to be more in control.
