How Well Do You Treat Your Skin?

By Tom Herrin

When it comes to our bodies and taking care of them, most of us have good intentions but often fall short.  We may not realize just how significant our skin is to the health of the rest of our bodies.  Even though many people have pampered their skin for years, many others of us have ignored it as if it didn't matter.  Everyone enjoys it when others have healthy looking skin.  We can enjoy our own as well when we keep it in good shape.  It is possible for any of us to maintain healthy skin with relatively little effort.

Use Sunscreen Regularly

A lot of us probably go about our everyday lives without ever giving any kind of thought to applying sunscreen.  If we have never had any kind of issues involving our skin, we may not have realized we needed it.  Sunscreens today are pretty effective.  It is recommended that we use them daily and that they are mineral-based with SPF of 30.  Most of us risk too much exposure each day simply riding in a car.  On several occasions, I have been burned while riding in a care with sun exposure through a window.

Moisturize Daily

While we may not think about it, using a moisturizer as often as possible can help to maintain a good level.  The products in today's market are better than ever.  Even though it is difficult to replace moisture that has been lost, after the fact, applying these products frequently can be pretty effective.  Finding the right ones to have on hand is easy and inexpensive.

Get the Right Amount of Sleep

Sleep has always been something we have been concerned about.  We all know that children need lots of it, but we try to find ways to skip it ourselves too often.  It is usually recommended that we get seven to eight hours of sleep each night.  Sleep plays a key role in our overall health.  If we don't get enough, we may not be able to carry out our daily functions as we should.  We may have little energy and have a poor metabolism.  As for our skin, sleep is the time in which our body makes repairs.  If we want to have the healthiest skin possible, we need enough sleep.  It may require adjustments to our schedule, but the results will be well worth the effort.
