Accelerate with Chiropractic and Stretching
By Sandy Schroeder
If you are ready to move ahead with all sorts of activities, you may want to prime your body for the effort.
The Joint Chiropractic clinic near you provides a wellness center with licensed chiropractors who focus on natural solutions for pain and improved health and wellness.
Your chiropractor will explain how your spinal health functions throughout the body. The spine mobilizes all of your movements and the central nervous system provides the communication network that controls your body.
Gentle targeted spinal adjustments may be just what you need to erase pain and energize everything that you do. Each person is different. As you assess the benefits, you may want to use weekly 15-minute spinal adjustments to stay at the top of your game.
At the same time, you may want to try some super stretches that make all of the difference in flexibility. Prevention offers some that may become favorites. As always check with your doctor before beginning new exercise routines.
Stretch for the hips - You need your hips to propel you ahead when walking and the glutes connect with the hip joint. Target the glutes as you lie flat on your mat and put a tennis ball under the outside of your hip. Roll the ball from the outer hip toward the tailbone for a few minutes on each side.
Stretch your big toe - The big toe forms a path all the way up to the glute when you are walking. If that toe does not bend well you may rotate your leg out to the side and not get a full force from the glute when walking. To activate the big toe, rest it on a tennis ball or rolled up towel keeping the ball of the foot on the ground. Hold for 30 seconds. Then press the toe into the ball 10 times. Lower and lift the heel as if you were taking a step. Switch feet and repeat.
Strengthen the calf - Back up knees and hips with this calf stretch. Use a wall for balance and step onto a rolled up towel with the ball of the foot on top of the towel and the heel on the floor. Slowly straighten and stretch the leg and step forward with the other foot. If your leg is tight it will be hard to step forward. Hold the step for 30 seconds. Then switch sides.
