How to Prepare Your Body for Camping

By Donna Stark

Are you tired of hearing your phone constantly chirp in your direction and do you wish your supervisor would stop breathing down your neck? Imagine leaving the whole world behind and finding some peace and quiet. Does that sound like something you'd be interested in? Well, camping in the mountains could be your solution, but make sure you prepare your body for it before you head to the woods! Because in addition to finding that solitude you so desire, you may also find yourself in a lot of pain. Fortunately, your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic have some suggestions for you.

Increase Strength

If you really want to get away, your campsite will probably be a couple of miles away from the main roads, and that means you will need to lift and carry all of the gear on your back to your final destination. You could be looking at 30 or more pounds to carry! So, if you know that camping is going to be in your future, you may want to work on increasing your strength and endurance. Try to incorporate workouts that include strength training into your daily routine. Be sure to focus on your leg, back, and core muscles when doing so.

Improve Cardio

There's a lot of hiking, lifting, and carrying while camping, and some of that may even occur at high altitudes. That's why it is just as important to improve your cardio health as it is your overall strength. Be sure to include cardio workouts, such as running, biking, swimming, or aerobic classes to your fitness routine several times a week. Your heart and lungs will thank you for it!

Improve Balance and Stability

You are not going to make it very far in the woods without coming across an obstacle of some sort so make sure you will be able to stay on your feet! Balance and stability are key for the successful navigation of trails, crossing of rivers, and climbing of boulders. Of course, if you work on increasing the strength in your legs and core, you are one step closer to achieving optimal balance and stability, but you may still need to do more. Add some balance exercises into your fitness routine and start walking on uneven surfaces at home. It's the best way to get a feel for what lies ahead in the woods.

Becoming Fully Prepared for Your Peace and Quiet

By following the tips above, you will be able to get in shape and become prepared for your future weekend camping trips. And if you are looking for more advice on what steps to take, head on in to see your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic. They can't wait to help!
