Start Planning Your Camping Season
By Brandi Goodman
The camping season is fast approaching. Never head off to the campground without a prepared list in hand. You need to start planning your camping season now so you know you have all items available and can maintain a healthy lifestyle even while on your camping vacation.
Update Your Camping Chairs
Many people purchase camping or outdoor chairs to sit around the fire or relax in comfort. You can bring these chairs camping, to the beach, or even use them in your own yard. The problem is, many of these seating options become uncomfortable quickly. You should update your camping chairs to a large size that you can sit in comfortably, or find one with an added support cushion for your back.
Find Healthy Camp Meals
Roasting hot dogs and grabbing an easy breakfast might be convenient while camping, but it isn't ideal for your health. You should research some healthy camp meals that you can take with you instead. Many can be prepared ahead of time and wrapped in foil for easy cooking. A camp griddle and cast iron pan can be taken along to make cooking over the fire more bearable. Having nutritious meals will benefit your mind and body so you can engage in all the camp activities you want without getting fatigued quickly.
Stock Your First Aid Kit
It's wise to have a first aid kit while you're at the campground. You never know when someone will end up hurt because of an activity or mishap in the woods. You may have forgotten some things got used up during the last camping season, so stocking up again before you go this year will ensure you have all the supplies you need. Make sure you add bug spray, anti-itch ointment, antiseptic wipes, gauze pads, butterfly bandages, pain relief medication, tweezers for splinters, rolled gauze, liquid bandage, and any personal items you may require.
Upgrade Your Sleeping Pad
A simple sleeping bag on the ground is not going to cut it for most adults. The hard ground and thin padding of your bag will leave you in pain the next morning -- guaranteed. It's wise to get a sleeping pad as well that offers some more comfort. If you already have one but it's been well-used, now is a good time to upgrade. You want to be sure it's fully inflatable or plush and hasn't lost any of its thickness.
It's never too early to start getting prepared. As soon as you start thinking about camping, you should do what you can to prepare for the upcoming season and make sure you have all you need for a healthy and safe trip.
