Chiropractic Care for Construction Workers

By Paul Rothbart

If you live in an area with a population of at least moderate size, you probably see construction on a regular basis. New homes, buildings for both residential and commercial use, parking facilities, roads. As the world expands, new facilities must be built to accommodate that growth. This creates a demand for construction workers. It's a solid job that generally pays well. It requires skill and craftsmanship and can create a feeling of a job well done. It is, however, a quite demanding way to make a living. In my youth, I briefly took a job running a jackhammer, purely for the salary. It was the toughest two days of my life. This is an occupation that requires care for the mind and body and seeing a chiropractor regularly can contribute to that care.

Physical Demands

Construction is very physical. It can involve climbing ladders, carrying heavy items. Working with tools, both manual and power can put quite a strain on the body. Operating heavy equipment is also a demanding task. Add in the long hours that are often necessary, and you've got a huge load of physical stress. Back and limb injuries are all too common. Left unchecked, the physical stress of construction can do permanent damage to the body and diminish quality of life.

Mental Demands

Construction work can also be tough on the mind. Looming deadlines and delays caused by inclement weather can create stress. Tension headaches and migraines are common. Anxiety and depression may also occur. Time off from work may become a necessity. The resulting loss of income can exacerbate stress. It can be a very difficult career to maintain for any length of time.

How a Chiropractor Can Help

If ever there was a profession that can benefit from regular chiropractic care, construction is it. Seeing a chiropractor regularly, not waiting for injury, can be very beneficial. Periodic exams and adjustments will keep the spine and neck in proper alignment. They also help the joints function properly, with full range of motion and flexibility. The risk of injury can be reduced and recovery times may be lessened, allowing the client to get back to work more quickly. Chiropractic care may also help eliminate tension headaches due to stress. Some people experience less anxiety as a result of regular chiropractic visits. They may also sleep better, which can help fight depression.

Construction is a noble and necessary occupation. But it does put a huge amount of stress on mind and body. People who work in this field must be vigilant when caring for themselves. If you work construction, consider visiting The Joint Chiropractic. No appointment is necessary. You might just find that regular chiropractic care makes your job and your life easier.
