Summer Stress Solutions for Students

By Brandi Goodman

The summer is known to many as a time to relax, have fun, and enjoy life. As students, we grow up with a set school season and a long summer break to recover. That isn't the case for everyone, though. Some may have summer school to attend, college to consider before fall even starts, and other worries that can bring on a lot of stress. With some summer stress solutions in your arsenal, you can better manage the situation at hand while keeping your health and well-being intact.

Take Time Off

If you just finished the school year and have summer school or a job coming up quickly, it's still advised to at least take some time off. You shouldn't finish the typical school year one day and start right up with work the next. It's wise to take at least a week off to give yourself a break, rest, and get ready for the challenge ahead.

Stick to Your Sleep Schedule

Many people maintain a sleep schedule during the school year, yet immediately fall off it when summer starts. If you're still going to be attending a school program, need to work, or have other busy plans, then you definitely need to stick with the sleep schedule you had set. Adequate rest will ensure proper focus and help you get through your day.

Find Time to Exercise

Lots of students get exercise during the school year during gym class. Whether you're in summer school or busy working, chances are you are not receiving the time for fitness that you need. You need to find the time so you can still exercise, keep up your well-being, and ease your stress at the same time. Exercise is great for that. Walk or bike to school if you need.

Take Advantage of Your Days Off

Most people don't have school nor work seven days per week. Even if it's only one or two days, take advantage of any days off you get. Don't study or work unless you have to and instead get in all the fun and adventure you can. It will be a nice reward after a hard week and help motivate you to forge on.

The summer isn't all about fun for everyone. Many people still have to work, attend school, or keep busy with other projects and preparations for the upcoming year that arrives quickly. If you fall into the latter category, do your best to beat the stress you're feeling and continue handling your duties as well as possible.
