5 Chiropractic Tips for Summer

By Brandi Goodman

The summer season is upon us, and for many people that means more time spent outdoors engaging in physical activities in the heat. With this comes a need for some precautions. Keep some chiropractic tips in mind for summer so you can fully enjoy the season without fear.

Stay Hydrated

Your body needs water on a regular day. Add in the excruciating heat that often comes with the summer season and you'll really be needing to keep yourself hydrated. Failing to do so can result in dangerous symptoms. Make sure you're drinking plenty of water, eating hydrating fruits and vegetables, and being safe in the sun.

Stretch Often

Before you start up your favorite summer activities again, you need to be sure to get in the habit of stretching. Your joints will ache afterward if you aren't properly stretching out your body and making sure you're capable of handling the activities you haven't done in so long. Stretch before, during, and after for the best results.

Exercise Out of the Heat

Certain times of day tend to be hotter than others. It's recommended that you get your outdoor exercise during the early morning hours or in the evening when it isn't quite as hot. The sun's peak hours tend to range from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Avoid exercising in the heat so you don't get dehydrated and overworked too quickly.

Follow Proper Protocols

There are protocols for everything. Say you're riding a bike. You should follow the typical safety recommendations of wearing a helmet, making sure you're sitting at the appropriate height, and keeping a reflective light on the bike so you can be seen even in the dark. Following protocols like these ensure you can remain safe throughout the summer without any mishaps.

Use the Water to Your Advantage

Water is great for exercise. This fact is especially true if you suffer from joint pain or have limited mobility. You'll be able to work out in water without the force of the hard ground causing you discomfort. You'll also be able to work out every muscle group with more ease.

With some tips in mind, you can better enjoy your summertime adventures. Stay safe in the heat anytime you're outdoors and have a long-lasting summer season free from pain. If you do experience some discomfort, it's best to stop in at The Joint for an evaluation.
